About USA
The US wine market draws global interest for good reason. As the largest wine market worldwide, it boasts approximately 79 million wine consumers, with a per capita consumption of 10 liters, or about two and a half gallons. The USA ranks as the second-largest importer of wine by value, making it a key player in the global wine industry.
In 2022, the US consumed 2.96 billion liters of wine, leading globally. However, consumption has been declining since 2020, with sales dropping 3.22% in 2022 and another 3% in 2023. Despite this, total wine sales reached $77.8 billion in 2022, highlighting the market’s significant value.
Approximately 80% of wine sales in the USA occur off-premise, with smaller shares coming from on-premise venues, wineries, and exports. The largest distributors include Southern Glazer’s Wines & Spirits, Breakthru Beverage Group, and Empire Distributors.
The market favors domestic wine, which represents 65-70% of total sales, while imported wines contribute 30-35%.
